Xi’an Jiaotong University Isotope Laboratory was founded by Prof. Hai Cheng in 2010, and was managed by Dr. Youfeng Ning. We aim to build a world-class leveled isotope laboratory. The main research of our laboratory is global climate and environmental changes. We provide experimental and technical support for frontier scientific research. The current researches of our Lab focus on the following aspects.
1) The global stalagmites records reconstruction;
2) Multi-scale global climate change;
3) U-Th dating techniques;
4) Stable isotope mass spectrometry analysis;
5) The new development of of triple oxygen isotope composition;
6) Climate simulation;
7) Climate dynamics.
Experimental Condition
The Isotope laboratory is composed by U-series chronology laboratory and stable isotope laboratory. The U-series chronology laboratory is equipped with ultra-clean laboratory, including Class 10,000 ultra-clean instrument laboratory, Class 1000 ultra-clean chemical laboratory and Class 100 ultra-clean safety cabinets (with ten different sizes). The laboratory can be monitored and controlled by an external computer to ensure the experimental conditions of constant temperature and humidity in the clean room to meet the chemical treatment requirements of the samples and to provide a stable external environmental condition for the normal operation of the Plasma Sourced Multi-collector Mass Spectrometry (MC-ICP-MS). The ultra-clean environment is regulated by a multi-stage filtered ventilation system that enables real-time and remote control operations. The laboratory has completed a large number of chemical treatments and instrument analysis works.
We have many advanced instruments, the Stable Isotope Laboratory has Stable Isotope Mass Spectrometry MAT-253, MAT-253Plus, and Delta V Plus, the two mass spectrometry are equipped with Kiel-IV micro-carbonate device, which can obtain a large number of high-resolution and high-precision stable carbon and oxygen isotope data in very short time, and also for the measurement of triple isotope composition. The Water Isotope Analyzer Picarro L2140-i can be used to measure atmospheric and hydraulic precipitation, karst drip and atmospheric water. The laboratory is also equipped with a Zeiss fluorescence and polarizing microscope, Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS), diamond wire cutting machine and Micromill micro sampling device and other equipment.
